Meet Janice Winfrey
Since 2006, Janice Winfrey has been Clerk of the largest municipality in the State of Michigan. Clerk Winfrey is recognized as a respected leader with unquestionable integrity.
Janice Winfrey, a native Detroiter graduated from Cass Technical High School and Eastern Michigan University. She was a Math Teacher for the Detroit Public Schools. She holds memberships to a variety of professional organizations, including the Michigan Chronicle, naming her, one of Southeastern Michigan’s Most Powerful African American Leaders.
Since 2006, Janice Winfrey has been Clerk of the largest municipality in the State of Michigan. Clerk Winfrey is recognized as a respected elected leader with unquestionable integrity, guided by the selfless principle to “give a voice” to those who need help. She demonstrates personal and professional courage in the execution of her duties. On a daily basis, she exercise sound administrative judgment as the steward of an $11 million budget. She has in-depth technical knowledge of the operations under her care and custody, which makes her an effective administrator.
In her role as Chief Elections Officer, Janice Winfrey is proud to be the forerunner in advancing the cause of democracy for these deserving members of our society. Under her leadership, the City of Detroit was the first municipality in Michigan to allow eligible residents to apply for absentee ballots by touch-screen-enabled devices.
Winfrey affords leadership that offers fresh innovative thinking and ideas that will engage and motivate a new and changing population, while including those who remained and kept the spirit alive.
